Santiana Garcia, a rising senior at Tonganoxie High School, will travel to Japan next week to participate in an all-expenses-paid cultural exchange program. Santiana was one of only fourteen high school students from across the United States selected as a 2023 recipient of the highly prestigious Kikkoman FCCLA Scholarship. Founded in 1945, FCCLA has been preparing students nationwide for leadership positions in the home and workplace for nearly 80 years. Under the Japanese Exchange Program, funded by the Kikkoman Corporation and facilitated by Youth for Understanding, Santiana will spend six weeks in Japan with a Japanese host family to learn and experience the culture firsthand. She will also have the opportunity to attend a Japanese secondary school for one week as a guest student.
