Grace Woods, a 2017 graduate of Tonganoxie High School, has always been deeply passionate about serving others and building strong, inclusive communities. During her time at THS, she was actively involved in FCCLA, Student Council, Forensics, National Honor Society, and various other activities that laid the foundation for her leadership and compassion.
In 2020, Grace graduated from the University of Kansas with a bachelor’s degree in Strategic Communications and a minor in Psychology. Eager to deepen her call to ministry, she relocated to Chicago to earn her Master of Divinity from Garrett Seminary, graduating in 2023. Today, Grace is ordained in the United Methodist Church, serving as the Pastor of Next-Gen Ministries at Topeka First United Methodist Church. In this role, she leads programs for youth, young adults, and the broader Topeka community, creating welcoming spaces where people can explore their faith and build meaningful relationships.
Grace's diverse experiences have shaped her approach to ministry, including her work as a birth and postpartum doula and her ongoing commitment to justice and advocacy. She reflects fondly on her time at THS, where teachers and mentors such as Kim Swearngin and Heather DeMaranville nurtured her growth, instilling confidence and a drive to pursue her passions.
Today, Grace lives in Lawrence, Kansas, with her spouse, David Felton, who is pursuing a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at the University of Kansas. Outside of her ministry work, Grace enjoys crafting, playing board games, and prioritizing self-care through yoga and rest.
