Middle school basketball was back on the hardwood last night, with the 8th grade team traveling to Woodland Springs and the 7th grade team hosting them at TMS. The 8th grade teams battled hard but struggled to find their shooting rhythm, ultimately falling by double digits. Despite the losses, Holthaus and Ingerson provided strong leadership for the A Team, keeping their teammates motivated throughout the game. The 7th grade teams faced adversity, playing with just seven players each due to illness and injury. Despite the short bench, they put up a strong fight. The B Team dropped a close game by just five points, with a tough 9-0 run at the end of the first half proving to be the difference. Meanwhile, the A Team secured a hard-fought 39-36 victory. They built a 10-point lead but had to withstand a late Woodland Springs comeback. Max Sturgeon came up clutch at the free-throw line to seal the win. Carter Welsh and Gehrig Eastes knocked down key three-pointers, while Nathanael Meitler and Layton Witte provided steady leadership throughout the game. Both teams will be back in action on Monday, with the 7th grade traveling to Ottawa and the 8th grade hosting them at home. Keep showing up and supporting these young athletes!

Team breaking huddle.
Team setting up a strong defense.
Warrior Basketball hit the court again yesterday, with the 8th grade boys playing at home and the 7th grade team traveling to Eudora. The 8th grade squad faced tough competition and fought hard throughout both games. The B Team battled but came up short, losing by 10, while the A Team fell by 12 in a competitive matchup. Theyā€™ll look to bounce back on Thursday when they travel to Woodland Springs. The 7th grade team had two nail-biters on the road. The B Team put up a strong fight, ultimately falling by just 5 points. Gehrig Eastes had a standout performance, showing increased aggressiveness on both ends of the floor. The team demonstrated solid help defense and even executed "helping the helper" well. However, rebounding and physicality remain areas for improvement as they continue to grow. The A Team also found themselves in a tight contest, pushing the game into overtime for the first time this season. In a thrilling finish, they pulled off a 44-41 victory, with Nathanael Meitler sinking two clutch free throws in the final moments to help secure the win. With this victory, they start the second half of the season at 1-0. The boys are back on the court Thursday, with the 8th grade team traveling to Woodland Springs and the 7th grade team playing at home. Come out and cheer them on as they continue to develop their skills and compete as a team! - Coach Sandburg #tongienation #usd464

Warrior Basketball was back in action last night, with the 7th grade traveling to Bonner Springs and the 8th grade hosting Bonner Springs. The 8th grade had a strong night, securing two victories. The B-Team kicked things off with a 30-23 win, thanks to a solid performance from Hudson Myers and a spark off the bench from Bruce Moore. The momentum carried into the A-Team game, where they dominated with a 39-22 victory. Roman Holthaus was a force in the post, putting together a monster game. These wins are great signs as the team heads into the second half of the season. For the 7th grade, the night was a mixed bag. The B-Team struggled against Clark, falling 22-30. Despite battling hard, they struggled with half-court execution and allowed too many open shots. Theyā€™ll need to shake off the loss quickly, as theyā€™re back in action Saturday at Lexington Trails. The A-Team, however, had a different story. After a slow start that saw them trailing by one at the end of the first quarter, they kicked into high gearā€”outscoring the Braves by 25 points over the final three quarters. Their ball movement and offensive execution were impressive, but what stood out most was their defensive chemistry. Their help defense and teamwork fueled their transition game, leading to a dominant 53-29 win. Theyā€™ll look to keep improving as they take on Eudora on Monday. Fans, keep showing up and supporting the teams! - Coach Sandburg

TMS Basketball was back in action this Tuesday, with 7th grade hosting Baldwin and 8th grade traveling to Baldwin. The 8th grade B Team put on a strong performance, securing a 45-27 victory. Meanwhile, the A Team had a slow start but showed resilience in the second half, despite falling 22-46. Roman Brown stood out with a solid effort, helping the team find its rhythm. The 7th grade Warriors had a successful night. The B Team claimed a 45-29 win, fueled by an impressive third quarter in which they shut out Baldwin 11-0. Chase Johnson and Asher Hoff led the way, with Tru Masterson making a key impact in the post. Their energy set the tone for the evening. The A Team carried that momentum into the next game, delivering a dominant performance. They controlled the game from start to finish, winning every quarter and securing a 54-28 victory. The team moved the ball well, maintained defensive pressure, and showcased a true team effort. A huge thank you to all the fans who came out to support the boys! Weā€™re back on the court Thursday, with 7th grade traveling to Bonner Springs and 8th grade hosting Bonner Springs. The basketball season is in full swing, and last night, our middle school teams faced off against Woodland Springs. The 7th grade teams continued their impressive streak, securing their third consecutive wins for both the A and B teams. The B Team showed significant improvement, defeating Woodland Springs 26-18. The guards are stepping up their game, with Jameson McAfee standing out as a key contributor. Jameson has shown tremendous growth, demonstrating better decision-making and patience with his shot. Overall, the team is excelling with strong man-to-man defense and unselfish play on offense. The 7th grade A Team also delivered another strong performance, scoring 35 and 32 points in their last two first halves. However, thereā€™s room to improve in playing down the stretch and finishing games stronger. They secured a solid 50-36 win, with Mason Sparks shining as a playmaker, racking up 15 assists by creating easy scoring opportunities for his teammates. The A Team continues to run an efficient offense and make strides defensively. The 8th grade teams are navigating a challenging patch but remain committed to improving and bouncing back stronger. Their hard work and dedication will undoubtedly pay off. The A Teams are gearing up for their next challenge at the Bonner Springs Tournament this Saturday, while both teams will return to action next Tuesday at Baldwin. The season is heating up, and the boys are making great progress! #tongienation #usd464

TMS Basketball was back in action on Tuesday night, with the 7th grade teams hosting Eudora while the 8th grade teams traveled to Eudora for their games. The 7th graders had a strong showing, earning two victories, while the 8th grade teams faced tough competition on the road and came up short in both games. In the 7th grade B Team game, Asher Hoff delivered a standout performance, scoring 10 points in a single run and proving himself as a rising offensive threat for the team. His growth exemplifies the hard work and progress being made by players across the board. The 7th grade A Team secured a 53-43 victory, thanks to solid execution on offense in the first half that helped them build a 10+ point lead. Layton Witte shone with several strong drives to the basket, while post players Mykel Marks and Nathanael Meitler continued their steady, consistent play. Mason Sparks stood out at point guard, hitting clutch free throws and jump shots to secure the win. The teams will return to action on Thursday against Woodland Springs.

The TMS Boys Basketball season is off to an exciting start, despite winter's attempts to slow things down. On January 13, the 7th and 8th grade teams faced off against Louisburg in their first games of the season. 7th grade traveled to Louisburg and played two very close games, with the B Team narrowly losing 15-13 and the A Team falling just short at 33-30. Both games were thrillers, showcasing the players' tremendous effort and competitive spiritā€”a great way to kick off the season! 8th grade teams had mixed results but showed promising signs of growth. The B Team fought hard in a close game, losing by just 4 points, while the A Team delivered a commanding performance, securing a 20-point victory. This impressive turnaround reflects the players' hard work during the off-season and improved coaching, especially considering the narrow losses to Louisburg last year. Great job, gentlemen! The boys are gearing up for their next games on Thursday, with 8th grade heading to Paola and 7th grade hosting Paola. Go Warriors! šŸ€šŸ€šŸ€ #tongienation #usd464
